Survey

Since I've become a blogger, I've found it very interesting to observe what people comment or don't comment on. So I thought I'd take a little survey: what inspires your comments? Something controversial, funny, personal narrative, complaining, serious, inspirational, or a picture? What are you inclined NOT to comment on? Are you more likely to comment on the blog of someone who comments on yours? Does your lack of comment mean you think it was a dumb post?

I think we should nominate Ryusoma as the Comment King! He almost always has something to say, and it's nice to know a blog is being read. :-)

Well, thankyou! :)

but seriously, I comment because I want people to know I'm reading their blogs. I just feel it is a sign of respect saying to the blogger "you took the time to write this post, I took the time to read it".

And to be honest, I just like blabbing :) and this is the easiest, most non-invasive way to do that. and I've got lots of time, and I've got lots to say. Lol...

Not commenting has nothing to do with how interesting I think the post is. Usually I comment when I can think of something intelligent or funny to contribute.

Sigh, I guess I am too lazy to comment - but, since I do faithfully read, I should at least comment once in awhile. Mostly I can't figure out what to say, so just sit and chuckle to myself if it is funny, tear up if it is sad, etc.

So, maybe I will comment more - maybe....

You actually wrote a fine blog recently, Kristi, to which no one responded. You thought it was a dud, but it wasn't. I think sometimes people write thoughtful blogs that get no comments, but maybe 10 people are thinking about what they said for a week.

Commenting for me tends to be a reflection of my blogging mindset at the time. These days, I just quickly skim blogs while running from class to class...always short on time, always supposed to be studying, never able to get too involved in people's posts. I am simply not in the mindset to post a comment. When it's a Saturday and I have nothing better to do, I'm more likely to make an effort at posting a comment...I'll think up something to say because that's how I'm spending my time. And so it was during the summer when I just worked all day and then came home and could fritter away the evening online. That mindset is definitely in hiding. I still check blogs a lot, but the commenting mindset is usually not there when I'm in school mode.

But when I AM in blogging mode, I'd say I gravitate toward commenting when I have an opinion or am seeking to give words of aff. I'm less likely to comment on narrative posts...but there are always exceptions. And I've just exceeded my commenting quota for the next three weeks. Gotta run!

I go with Jeremy- only comment when I feel I have something intelligent to say. Sadly, that isn't very often these days.
I read and enjoy many more posts than I comment on.

I comment only on controversies (unless I am procrastinating on my homework in which case I'll comment on anything).

I enjoy a lot of blogs that I don't comment on, due to all the reasons stated. But this discussion makes me want to do it more!

I comment when I'm looking for a break from mind numbing paper correcting, like right now, or when I think I have something (not necessarily intelligent) to say.
